Understanding Your Health
What Is Naturopathic Thyroid Care?
The thyroid is a small gland with an enormous impact — regulating metabolism, energy, mood, weight, hair growth, and more. Yet thyroid conditions are among the most underdiagnosed and undertreated, with many patients told their labs are "normal" despite experiencing debilitating symptoms.
Dr. Savaya takes a comprehensive approach to thyroid health — running a full thyroid panel beyond standard TSH testing, investigating autoimmune triggers like Hashimoto's and Graves' disease, and using naturopathic therapies to support thyroid function and calm the immune response driving the condition.
"A normal TSH doesn't always mean a healthy thyroid. I look at the full picture — antibodies, nutrients, gut health, and how you actually feel — to find what's really going on."
— Dr. Juline Savaya, NMD

Common Signs
Symptoms Dr. Savaya Can Help With
Thyroid symptoms are often dismissed or misattributed. If several of these sound familiar, your thyroid may deserve a closer look.
Persistent Fatigue & Low Energy
Deep exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix — one of the hallmark symptoms of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's.
Brain Fog & Poor Concentration
Difficulty thinking clearly, memory issues, and mental sluggishness that impact work and daily life.
Unexplained Weight Changes
Difficulty losing weight despite healthy habits (hypothyroid) or unexplained weight loss (hyperthyroid) connected to metabolic dysregulation.
Hashimoto's & Graves' Disease
Autoimmune thyroid conditions that require more than just hormone replacement — the immune trigger needs to be addressed.
Hair Thinning & Hair Loss
Diffuse hair shedding or thinning eyebrows — commonly associated with thyroid hormone imbalance and nutrient deficiencies.
Mood Changes & Depression
Anxiety, low mood, and irritability that don't respond to treatment alone — often with an overlooked thyroid component.

Frequently Asked Questions
My doctor says my thyroid is normal. Why do I still feel unwell?
Standard thyroid testing typically checks only TSH. A TSH within the normal reference range does not mean your thyroid hormones are at optimal levels for your body, and it does not identify Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Dr. Savaya runs a comprehensive thyroid panel including Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies, along with key nutrients that directly affect thyroid function. This level of detail often reveals what standard testing misses.
What is the difference between hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's?
Hypothyroidism means your thyroid is underproducing thyroid hormone. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, progressively reducing its ability to produce hormones. Hashimoto's is the leading cause of hypothyroidism in developed countries, but because treatment for both often starts with the same medication, the autoimmune component is frequently not addressed. Naturopathic medicine focuses on reducing the immune attack, not just replacing the hormone.
Can Dr. Savaya prescribe thyroid medication?
In Arizona, yes. Dr. Savaya can prescribe thyroid medication including levothyroxine and desiccated thyroid and adjust dosing based on symptoms and comprehensive lab values rather than TSH alone. In Michigan, she works collaboratively with your existing thyroid care team and focuses on naturopathic and nutritional support.
I am already on thyroid medication but still have symptoms. Can you help?
Yes, this is one of the most common situations Dr. Savaya works with. Nutrient deficiencies, gut health, adrenal function, and T4-to-T3 conversion issues are all common reasons patients on medication still feel unwell. A comprehensive workup often identifies what is missing from the current care plan.
How does thyroid health affect fertility?
Significantly. Even subclinical hypothyroidism increases the risk of miscarriage and reduces implantation rates. It is also worth knowing that elevated thyroid antibodies -- even with a TSH that appears normal -- can independently increase the risk of miscarriage. The American Thyroid Association recommends TSH levels below 2.5 mIU/L for women who are pregnant or trying to conceive. Optimizing thyroid function is one of the first steps in Dr. Savaya's preconception protocol.
